Utsukushigahara Onsen and our hot spring source gush out from our courtyard, which has been known as “Tsukama-no-Yu” since the Nara period (710–784). The mud walls and dark beams of our three-story wooden building in the center of this hot springs town capture the flavor of traditional folk art. The lobby is appointed with Matsumoto traditional handcrafted folk furniture and Western antiques for a fusion that creates a modern feel, and in winter, a fire blazes in the fireplace while jazz music plays quietly on the sound system.
Guests are invited to enjoy the paintings, folk crafts, dishes, audio, toys and other decorations throughout the building, as well as public spaces and a foot bath, lounge,
bar and treehouse.
Enjoy creative local cuisine lovingly prepared by hand, featuring only the best seasonal local ingredients, including wild vegetables, river fish, horse meat, Shinshu beef, wild game and mushrooms. Our list of beverages includes wines, local Japanese sake and craft beer carefully selected by the proprietor.
Top off your visit with roughly milled soba noodles made from 100% buckwheat flour—the proprietor only makes 10 dishes per day! We invite you to come enjoy the nature of the four seasons of Shinshu.
