Araya Totoan

Araya Totoan is a famous hot spring in the Hokuriku region, centrally located in Yamashiro Onsen, a hot springs retreat for the people of Kanazawa. Our history dates back 18 generations, to a time when Araya Gen-emon ran the hot springs as lodging for the successive lords of the Maeda clan during Japan’s feudal era.
Within abundant outflow of roughly 100,000 liters per day only possible at the very source of the hot springs, all of our baths flow freely and directly from the source; no water is recycled. We have a total of 17 rooms, including sukiya-style Japanese rooms, mixed Japanese-Western rooms with private outdoor baths, and Ochin-no-ma, our deluxe room.
Each room features views of our wild garden, and are wonderful places to relax and enjoy quiet time punctuated by the changing of the seasons.
Every meal is a truly special experience—we use fresh, delicious ingredients from the Kaga region, and only the finest and most exquisite local Kutani-yaki porcelain and Yamanaka-nuri lacquerware. We also display a collection of modern art that reflects the proprietor’s tastes, including works from the early 20th century, when noted artist and epicure Kitaoji Rosanjin stayed with us.
After your meal, we invite you to add to your memorable trip with a stroll through our wild garden to Arisugawa-Sanso, our remodeled bar and lounge in a wooden building well over a century old.
